How To Listen To Music: Frank Sinatra at the Sands
How To Listen To Music is committed to helping you deepen your relationship to yourself and to culture by training you to better understand and appreciate the music that you listen to.
In this gathering we will be doing the our second investigation of the work of Quincy Jones via his work as an arranger on Frank Sinatra’s Sinatra at the Sands. Recorded in 1966, this album reflects a different kind of musicianship and entertainment than we are used to now. The role of arranger is not so prevalent in most modern popular music and Quincy describes the skillset and mindset needed to be up to par. These arrangements are very tasty and we will be able to talk some about orchestration and harmony in a way that is almost lost in today’s soundscape.

How To Listen To Music: Quincy Jones and Thriller
How To Listen To Music is committed to helping you deepen your relationship to yourself and to culture by training you to better understand and appreciate the music that you listen to.
In our next gathering we will be doing the our first investigation of the work of Quincy Jones via Michael Jackson’s Album, Thriller. Thriller is the best selling album of all time and is considered to be Jackson’s Magnum Opus. Quincy served as producer for this project and this investigation will in part be a conversation about what a music producer actually is and how to listen for their contribution.

How To Listen To Music: Straight Ahead
I am thrilled to invite you to a virtual workshop on Straight Ahead Jazz (artists like Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins) for my series How to Listen To Music. This is for anyone who wants to learn to hear with musician ears; everything from the details of form, rhythm, and harmony, to the color and aroma of spirit and intent. My goal is for you all to enjoy music more by showing you how to hear more of what is there. Hope to see you!

Quadrivium: Math + Music 3
Math+Music is an international public art series bridging the technical and creative spheres. We use art and live musical performance to creatively explore technical, often mathematical, concepts. In doing so, we invite people to develop fresh insights, form new connections, and cultivate personal growth.
Our project aims to harness the power of music to create space for learning - and in doing so, change the world. Our purpose is to foster curiosity, build community, and inspire as many people (and young minds) as possible to think outside the box.
