My initial training was in music and it is still the foundational lens through which I view the world. My teacher was the great Alto Saxophonist, Bruce Williams who first helped attune me to musical excellence. I have also studied Audio Engineering and Production with Bassy Bob Brockman, Voice with Kate Baker, and Composition with Kendall Briggs.
The great Sufi mystic and musician, Hazrat Inayat Khan relates a the story of how, before the creation of humanity, the soul wanted to fly free and God and all the angels were unable to direct it into the human form. It was only music that had sufficient power to coax it into flesh. Similarly, in the Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz, a foundational work of the European Alchemical tradition, molded human forms received their soul through the pipes of a golden trumpet. The physics of sound suggest that music could be understood completely by vibrations in air, aural mechanics, and neural pathways. Perhaps it is all mechanical, however, taking the above traditions sincerely gives us a far richer and magical world to live in.
Here are some of my experiments with this particular form of enchantment. All of this music will also live on bandcamp eventually but you can listen to my collection here for as part of your membership.
